The Parc naturel régional des Volcans d’Auvergne, in the Massif Central, offers truly unique landscapes that are quite different from those of many better-known mountain regions. And the best part? This area is still relatively undiscovered by motorcyclists! We can assure you that it is well worth exploring on two wheels.
Our two rides take you through a landscape shaped by ancient volcanoes, with beautiful views of the rounded volcanic peaks, winding roads through impressive gorges and lovely stops in picturesque mountain villages. It is a wonderful combination of scenic riding, peaceful countryside and unexpected discoveries. The two routes are ready to add to your own road trip, and we also share our tips on what to see and where to stay in Clermont-Ferrand, the central point of this tour.
Clermont-Ferrand is an ideal base for exploring the Auvergne. This lively city is known for its striking dark volcanic-stone buildings, historic centre and welcoming terraces. It is a great place to spend the evening after a day of discovering the region’s remarkable landscapes.

Ride 2 of the Volcanoes of the Auvergne tour is not in the Parc Naturel Regional des Volcans d’Auvergne, as this ride goes North of Clermont-Ferrand. But that doesn’t mean the ride doesn't bring you some nice riding. Especially following the river Sioule through the Gorges de la Sioule, such as the Gorge de Chouvigny, offers some nice curvy roads. And of course we added a good coffee- ánd lunchstop and you will even get a view on the highest railway viaduct in France. 180 kilometres / 110 miles of fun in the Auvergne!
